Getting event details into structured data without writing JSON

If you run concerts, classes, meetups or conferences, structured data hands search engines the date, venue and address in a form they do not have to guess at. This form returns a schema.org Event in JSON-LD, with the venue, a virtual location or both nested inside, the status and attendance mode you pick, and an organizer, image and ticket offer when you supply them. Nothing leaves your computer.

Step by step

  1. Type the title of the event into Event Name and a short summary into Description.
  2. Set Start Date with the picker. End Date is optional.
  3. Give the venue under Location Name and its street under Street Address, then fill City, State or region, and Country with a code such as US or FR.
  4. Leave Event status on Scheduled unless plans changed, and set Attendance to In person, Online or Both.
  5. Add an organizer, an image address, and for paid events the ticket page, price and currency.
  6. Paste the event page address into Event URL, press Generate Schema, check the code panel, and press Copy JSON-LD.

What to watch for

The offer is always marked InStock, so change availability to SoldOut by hand when tickets run out, and a price typed without a currency code is labeled USD. Performer and previousStartDate have no fields. Online swaps the venue for a VirtualLocation, and Both lists the two side by side. The virtual location borrows its address from the Event URL box, so an online or mixed event needs it filled, ideally with the page where people join.

Times come from the picker in a form like 2026-10-15T19:00, which carries no time zone. Append the venue's offset, for example -04:00. There is no postal code box, so add postalCode by hand; blank address parts are dropped. Empty top-level values are deleted silently, and because startDate is required, a blank picker means invalid markup.

Questions people ask

Which pages should carry Event markup?

Pages about one specific event that happens at a set time and place. Google's event guidelines say not to mark up things that are not events, such as sales, business hours or travel packages.

How do I handle an event that repeats?

Give each occurrence its own Event object and startDate; run the form once per date, or copy the object and change the times.

The event was postponed. What should change?

If there is no new date yet, set Event status to Postponed and keep the original Start Date. Once a new date is set, change Start Date, pick Rescheduled, and add previousStartDate with the old date by hand, because the form has no field for it.
