Your video pages are missing the markup search engines read
Google can often find a video on a page without help, but VideoObject markup spells out the details it would otherwise have to guess: the title, the thumbnail, when it was published and how long it runs. This generator turns seven form fields into a JSON-LD snippet you can paste into the page that embeds the video. It works offline in your browser and makes no request to your video host.
Step by step
- Type the video's name in Video Title. Keep it the same as the visible title on the page.
- Write a short summary in Description.
- Add an absolute link to the preview image in Thumbnail URL.
- Add the direct address of the media file in Video file URL (contentUrl). A player link goes in Embed URL.
- Choose the day it went live in Upload Date, and enter the running time in Duration using the PT format shown in the placeholder.
- Press Generate Schema, check the result, then use Copy JSON-LD. The copied text already includes the script tags.
What to watch for
Each URL box feeds its own property. Google treats contentUrl as the address of the media file itself and embedUrl as the address of a player, so a hosted platform link typed into the file box describes the wrong thing. For a platform like YouTube, fill only the embed box.
Upload Date comes out as a bare calendar date. That is valid ISO 8601, but Google suggests adding a time and a UTC offset; without one it assumes Googlebot's time zone. Duration is copied exactly as typed, so double check the letters: PT, then hours with H, minutes with M and seconds with S.
Blank fields vanish from the output instead of showing as empty strings, which means an incomplete form produces tidy code that is still missing required properties. Before publishing, confirm the block has name, thumbnailUrl and uploadDate.
Questions people ask
Will this get my video into the video carousel?
It makes the page eligible, nothing more. Google decides whether to show a video result, and it also needs to be able to crawl the thumbnail and see the video on the page.
Can I use a YouTube link?
Yes. Put the embed address (youtube.com/embed/ followed by the ID) in the Embed URL box and leave the file box blank, since YouTube gives you a player rather than a video file.
Do I need a video sitemap as well?
Not necessarily. Structured data and a video sitemap are separate ways to describe videos to Google, and you can use either one or both.
