Need filler text to test a layout?

Designers and developers need realistic-looking copy to judge line lengths, spacing and how a template copes with long and short blocks. Real copy is often not ready yet, so the convention is Lorem Ipsum, scrambled Latin that reads as text without distracting anyone with meaning. This page generates it on demand, in the quantity and shape you need, and hands it over as plain text you can copy.

Step by step

1. Set the quantity in the numeric box (it starts at 3). The arrows go from 1 to 20.
2. Use the Type menu to say what that number counts: whole paragraphs, single sentences, or individual words.
3. Press Generate to create a fresh batch. Pressing it again gives a different random mix.
4. Press Copy and paste the text into your mockup, page builder or test post.

What to watch for

The text is random word salad drawn from the standard passage, not a faithful copy of it. Sentence lengths vary between 8 and 17 words and paragraphs between 4 and 7 sentences, which is useful for testing, but the only punctuation is the period closing each sentence. Word mode gives you a bare, all-lowercase string. Line breaks separate paragraphs, but no HTML markup is included, so a raw HTML field will need its own tags.

More important is what happens after the design stage. Filler that survives into production makes a page look abandoned, and if a staging site is open to crawlers, whole templates of it can be indexed. Put a password on staging environments and run a site search for placeholder words as part of your launch checklist.

Questions people ask

Why does the text not begin with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet"?

Every word is chosen at random from the passage, including the first one. If you need the traditional opening, type it in front of the output.

Can I generate more than 20 paragraphs?

Not in one go. Whatever you type is kept within 1 to 20, and the box changes to display the value actually applied. The same cap holds in Words mode, so a single run gives at most 20 words. For longer filler, press Generate again and paste the batches together.

Is it bad for SEO to have Lorem Ipsum on a page?

On a live, indexable page, yes: it offers nothing to readers and makes the site look unfinished. On a password-protected staging or local build it does no harm, because search engines cannot reach it.
