Turn any title into a clean, SEO-friendly URL slug. It runs in your browser: nothing you paste is uploaded, there is no account, and the tool is free. It is built and maintained by SEO ProCheck.
URL Slug Generator
- Keep slugs short (3-5 words)
- Use hyphens, not underscores
- Include target keyword
- Avoid stop words (a, the, and, etc.)
Need a clean URL for a new post or page?
Page titles are full of capitals, punctuation and spaces, none of which belong in a tidy web address. This converter reduces a title to lowercase words joined by hyphens, updating live while you type, so you can shape the slug before you publish. Everything is processed inside your browser tab.
Step by step
- Paste the headline or working title into the top box.
- Read the slug in the box beneath it. It changes with every character you add or delete.
- Cut words from the headline until the slug is short and still descriptive. Removing filler words is up to you; the converter keeps every word you give it.
- Press "Copy Slug" and paste the result into the permalink or URL field of your CMS.
What to watch for
The converter keeps only a to z, 0 to 9 and hyphens. Accented letters are converted first, so "résumé tips" turns into resume-tips, but almost everything else is deleted instead of translated. That has side effects. Symbols carry no meaning over: "C++ guide" becomes c-guide and "50% off" becomes 50-off. Titles written entirely in a non-Latin alphabet produce nothing at all. Underscores in the input are swapped for hyphens automatically. The tool has no length limit, so a long headline yields a long slug unless you trim it.
Questions people ask
Hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens. Google's guidance on URL structure recommends them so that each word is read separately.
Should I remove words like "the" and "and"?
Often, yes, when it makes the slug shorter without losing meaning. Keep them when dropping them would make the slug confusing.
Can I change the slug of a page that is already published?
You can, but its URL changes. Add a permanent (301) redirect from the old address to the new one so existing links, bookmarks and search results still lead to the page.
