Search Intent

Technical Definition

Search intent is the purpose behind a search query. Categories: informational (seeking information), navigational (finding specific site), commercial (researching before purchase), transactional (ready to buy/act). Google prioritizes matching intent over keyword matching. Analyze SERP to understand intent. Content must align with intent to rank well.

Simple Explanation (ELI13)

Search intent is the reason someone is searching. Are they trying to learn something? Find a specific website? Compare products? Buy something? Google tries to show results that match what people actually want. If your page doesn't match what searchers are looking for, it won't rank, even if it mentions the keywords.
