Technical Definition
Word count is the number of words in content. No ideal count exists; optimal length depends on topic, intent, and competition. Longer content can rank better by being more comprehensive, but length alone isn't a ranking factor. Quality matters more than quantity. Analyze competing content to understand length expectations for your topic.
Simple Explanation (ELI13)
Word count is simply how many words your content has. There's no magic number that ranks better. A simple question might need 200 words; a complex guide might need 5,000. Look at what's already ranking for your topic. If competing pages are 2,000 words, yours probably needs to be at least that long to compete.
