Technical Definition

A featured snippet is a highlighted answer box appearing above regular search results (Position 0). Types: paragraph, list, table, video. Pulled from ranking pages, typically positions 1-10. Optimization: answer questions directly, use appropriate formatting (lists for steps, tables for comparisons), structure content clearly. Not guaranteed; Google decides what deserves snippets.

Simple Explanation (ELI13)

A featured snippet is the answer box that appears at the top of search results, above the regular links. Google pulls this from a webpage to directly answer the question. Getting featured is valuable because it's super visible. To try for it, clearly answer the question searchers are asking, ideally in a format that Google can easily extract.
