Keyword Density

Technical Definition

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword appears relative to total word count. Once considered important, now largely obsolete as a metric. Over-optimization (keyword stuffing) is penalized. Focus instead on natural language, semantic relevance, and comprehensive topic coverage. No optimal density exists; write naturally for users.

Simple Explanation (ELI13)

Keyword density is how often a keyword appears compared to the total words on a page. In the old days, people thought repeating keywords a lot helped rankings. Now it can actually hurt you. Just write naturally. If your keyword appears where it makes sense, that's enough. Don't force it in repeatedly.
