Link Equity

Technical Definition

Link equity (formerly 'link juice') is the ranking value passed through links. Factors affecting equity: linking page authority, relevance, number of outgoing links (dilution), link position, anchor text, followed vs. nofollowed. Internal links pass equity within a site. Equity flows through the link graph, accumulating on frequently-linked pages.

Simple Explanation (ELI13)

Link equity is the SEO value that flows through links. When an authoritative site links to you, some of that authority passes to you. The more links sharing from one page, the less each one passes. Internal links also pass equity, which is why linking to your important pages from other pages helps them rank.
