- Element Code: LOC-004
- Issue: Business has few or no customer reviews
- Impact: Lower Map Pack performance and reduced click-to-customer conversion
- Fix: Build a steady, ethical review-generation process and respond to all reviews
- Detection: Google Business Profile review count
What this issue means
Reviews — their quantity, quality, velocity, and your responses — are a significant local ranking input and a major trust factor for the humans choosing between you and a competitor.
Why it matters
Two businesses can rank similarly, but the one with more recent, higher-rated, well-answered reviews wins the click and the customer. Review signals also feed directly into local ranking systems.
How to fix it
- Ask every satisfied customer, at the right moment, with a direct GBP review link.
- Make it frictionless — a short link or QR code.
- Respond to every review, positive and negative, professionally and promptly.
- Aim for steady velocity, not a one-time burst (which looks unnatural).
- Never buy or gate reviews — it violates Google's policies and risks removal.
Common mistakes
- Incentivizing or buying reviews (policy violation).
- Ignoring negative reviews instead of resolving them publicly.
- Review-gating (only soliciting happy customers), which is against guidelines.
Tools
Google Business Profile's review link, plus reputation tools to request and monitor reviews at scale.
